As expectations around just transition grow, businesses and future leaders are increasingly expected to understand the social and human rights dimensions of the green transition, not just its technical or environmental aspects. The client engaged TCC to design a learning offer that brings just transition principles into the core of business decision-making, bridging sustainability, human rights, and strategy.
Starting point
While just transition is gaining traction in policy and advocacy spaces, it remains poorly understood in business contexts, particularly in high-emission sectors. Existing training often treats human rights and sustainability as parallel concerns, leaving leaders without a practical framework to navigate trade-offs during the green transition.
The client recognised a gap in both executive education and higher education, where future business leaders were entering the workforce without a clear grasp of how social risk, labour rights, and climate strategy intersect.
How we engaged
We conducted extensive market research to identify knowledge gaps and learning needs, then designed a curriculum that integrates just transition principles directly into business strategy. Two distinct courses were developed: one tailored to senior executives in high-emission industries, and another for business and MBA students preparing for leadership roles.
The courses combine theory with interactive elements, such as workshops and facilitated discussions, alongside a complementary educational framework that organisations can apply to manage just transition challenges in practice.
What Changed
The client gained a robust, adaptable learning offer that equips both current and future leaders with the tools to approach the green transition through a human rights–informed lens. The work helped shift just transition from an abstract concept to a practical competency within business education.
